School-Wide Learning Objectives

Mission & Vision

School Purpose

The primary purpose of the continuation high schools in LAUSD is to provide credit deficient, at-risk students the opportunity to succeed academically and earn a high school diploma. Our continuation school's small size helps to create a close relationship among students and teachers, providing a dual emphasis upon academic instruction and personal guidance. This enables students to more effectively recapture credits, complete their graduation requirements, and leave our school with a high school diploma and a plan for post-secondary educational or vocational opportunities.

The vision and mission statements plus School-wide Learning Objectives (SLOs) for MCHS were developed in a joint effort that included staff, students, and parents. The documents have been reviewed and revised since our initial WASC visit. The SLOs relate to the unique atmosphere of the school community and are supported by educational research that indicates students in a small, highly personalized learning environment achieve at higher levels.

Mission High School will provide students with individualized learning opportunities and life skills that focus on rigorous academic standards, positive personal growth, and the college and career readiness skills needed to graduate as lifelong learners who are resilient and academically prepared for achieving 21st century success and contributing to our global community.

Mission High School will educate its diverse student population with a rigorous, relevant college-readiness curriculum where students are continuously engaged in analysis, are empowered to express personal histories and build meaningful connections to the outside world, and are encouraged to reflect on and advance their levels of learning. Mission HS nurtures students who are dedicated to servicing their community, are recognized for excellence and resiliency, and are prepared to meet the demands of 21st century colleges and workforce.
